Micologia
Fungal infections have become more frequent over recent years and invasive mycosis are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in severely immunocompromised patients. Candida species have now emerged as one of the leading causes of nosocomial blood stream infections, invasive aspergillosis represents the most common infectious cause of death among patients undergoing organ transplantation and treatment for haematological malignancies, cryptococcosis is responsible of infection-related death in AIDS patients. Laboratory diagnosis of fungal infections is established by isolation and identification of the fungus from clinical specimens and by the detection of circulating antigens and specific antibodies in patient sera. Bio-Rad offers a complete line of culture media, identification and susceptibility testing panels and kits for serological assays.
